Vice President Kashim Shettima presided over the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Thursday.

Governors from across the Federation and other stakeholders are in attendance at the meeting, which is taking place in the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The summit is intended to address some of the country’s important economic difficulties caused by the withdrawal of the petrol subsidy.

Security issues around the country, including recent attacks in some sections of the North, are also expected to be reviewed.

Journalists have been excused from the meeting and will be briefed on the outcome shortly.

The NEC meeting comes about 24 hours after the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited announced that it secured a $3 billion Emergency Crude Repayment Loan from African Export-Import Bank (AFREXIM) Bank.
