Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the Nigerian government’s commitment to the welfare of organised labour, inclusive economic policies, and wage reforms.

Speaking on Thursday during a meeting with a delegation led by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Director-General, Gilbert Houngbo, and Labour Minister Muhammad Dingyadi, Shettima praised Nigeria’s vibrant labour movement and its role in national development.

He emphasised President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to improving workers’ welfare, highlighting the recent minimum wage increase, with some states exceeding the agreed ₦70,000 benchmark.

The Vice President noted Nigeria’s youthful population as a key advantage in the global workforce and stressed the importance of policies that turn demographic growth into economic strength.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to fair wages and labour policies, Shettima assured the ILO delegation that President Tinubu would be briefed on their requests.

Houngbo, in response, expressed gratitude for Nigeria’s support in his election and urged the government to finalise labour code reforms and revive the National Labour Advisory Council.
