The Kebbi State Police Command has assured residents that security has been brought under control following a loud explosion at the General Hospital in Bagudo in the early hours of Tuesday.
The reassurance was conveyed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman.
The police explained that a joint security team made up of officers of the Nigeria Police Force, the military and local vigilante groups promptly cordoned off and secured the area shortly after the incident.
Specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit were also deployed to carry out a thorough assessment of the scene.
The command confirmed that no lives were lost in the incident. While a building within the hospital’s staff quarters was damaged, residents of the affected area were said to have evacuated before the explosion occurred.
The Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State has directed the deployment of additional tactical units to the area to maintain law and order and guarantee public safety.
A full-scale investigation has also been initiated to establish the cause of the explosion.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and stay away from the immediate surroundings of the hospital to enable security agencies to carry out their duties without obstruction.
The police added that further information would be made available as investigations continue.
