The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that six passengers lost their lives in a road accident near the Four Square Camp along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, while 23 others were injured.

The Ogun State command’s Public Relations Officer, Odunsin Afolabi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Abeokuta, the state capital.

“The incident occurred at about 11:27 hours. The response time was two minutes before the rescue team from the Federal Road Safety Corps Ogunmakin Unit Command got to the scene. A trailer, DAF CF 380, with registration number SNA 287 XA, was involved in the lone crash,” he said.

“A total of 29 persons were involved: 23 were injured while six were killed.”

Afolabi explained that fatigue and excessive speed caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

He also cautioned against the practice of transporting cattle alongside passengers, stressing that such mixed loading often makes it difficult to separate people from goods during transit and can lead to fatalities.

Those injured and the bodies of the deceased were taken to Oreoluwa Hospital, GOFAMINT Camp, Ogunmakin, and Victory Hospital, Ogere.

The FRSC urged motorists to ensure regular maintenance and inspection of commercial vehicles, particularly heavy-duty trucks. Drivers were also advised to adhere to speed limits, remain in full control of their vehicles—especially on expressways—and comply strictly with road safety rules.
