A teenager fatally stabbed a fellow student and a teacher at a secondary school in northeastern Slovakia on Thursday, injuring another student.
The 18-year-old attacker was detained shortly after fleeing the scene, police confirmed.
Emergency services reported the fatalities as an 18-year-old student and a 51-year-old deputy headmistress. Another 18-year-old student remains hospitalised in a serious but stable condition.
The attack occurred in the town of Spišská Stará Ves, near the Polish border. Police responded swiftly, arriving within minutes of receiving the emergency call.
Authorities identified the attacker as “S.S.,” who had recently transferred from another school after being expelled for threatening violence.
Slovak President Peter Pellegrini condemned the incident, calling it “a real tragedy” and emphasising that “no problem can be solved with a knife or another weapon.”
The incident follows previous violent attacks in Slovak and European schools, reigniting concerns over safety in educational institutions.
