Saidu Umar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for Governor in Sokoto State, has welcomed 2,343 former All Progressives Congress members to his party.
On Thursday during the opening of the Ubandoma/Sagir Mainiyo Old Market Development Association, Umar welcomed the new PDP members.
This was said in a statement provided on Friday by Umar’s assistant Nafiu Lema.
Umar gave the defectors the assurance that they would be included in all party activities, especially now that the campaigns had started.
He tasked them with exerting extra effort in the region to build support for the party and its candidates.
Outlining his plans for empowerment initiatives, Umar promised that, if elected, his administration will give women and young people in the state possibilities.
He praised Abdulrashid Maccido, the association’s chairman, for empowering both men and women in the community, and he challenged other businesspeople in the party to follow his example.
Abdullahi Maigwandu, the Commissioner for Local Government affairs, Abdulqadir Junaidu, the Commissioner for Animal Health and Fisheries, and Bashir Gidado, the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, all joined Umar to the ceremony.
Others were Mustapha Shehu Sokoto and Faruku Sayudi, the council Chairmen of the Local Government Councils for Sokoto North and Sokoto South, respectively.
