Sokoto gov orders LG secretaries to resign from civil service

Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has instructed civil servants serving as Local Government Secretaries to submit their resignations, emphasizing that their appointments are political.

The governor issued these directives during a meeting with Local Government Sole Administrators and Secretaries throughout the state on Monday.

He clarified that the ongoing controversy regarding the role of local government secretaries has been resolved, as the law now designates them as political officeholders.

“It is now clear that you are occupying political offices, therefore, if you are a civil servant make sure you resign.”

“We believe in the rule of law and will not accept any situation where people will flout the law,” he added.

In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Abubakar Bawa, Aliyu directed Local Government Sole Administrators to conduct regular security meetings with relevant stakeholders to address issues of banditry and other crimes in the state.

He added, “Securing our community is not only the responsibility of governments but the responsibility of all of us.”

The governor urged Sole Administrators to involve everyone in addressing security concerns for optimal results.

He also tasked them with maintaining vigilance and promptly reporting any suspicious individuals to the appropriate authorities.

Dr. Aliyu emphasized the importance of robust surveillance and intelligence gathering in rural areas as a crucial strategy for combating insecurity in the state.

Furthermore, he affirmed his administration’s commitment to combatting banditry and other criminal activities within the state.

He thanked the people of the State for their maximum support of his administration.
