Sokoto government house lock out staff over lateness

On Thursday, Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu took the decision to lock the gate of the Government House against staff members who arrived late.

According to reports, Governor Aliyu personally arrived at the Government House around 8:30 am and discovered that a significant number of staff members had not reported to their respective offices.

The Governor found only cleaners and one nurse present at the Government House Clinic.

Following the discovery of numerous staff members being absent from their offices, Governor Ahmed Aliyu instructed the security guards to lock the gate of the Government House and prevent anyone from entering.

Reports indicate that the gate remained closed until approximately 1 pm. As a result, several senior staff members, including some of the governor’s aides, were unable to gain access to the Government House and were effectively locked out during this period.

While justifying his decision, Aliyu said: “What is expected from any serious government is to ensure timely payment of workers’ salary.

“When I came in, I paid two months’ salaries within three weeks.

“That is why I drove myself to the office because my drivers did not come in time.”

The governor added: “I promised the people of Sokoto State that I would not betray their trust nor allow any public officers to do so.

“You either work or return our money. You cannot collect our money without justifying it.”
