Sokoto marketers embrace e-Naira transactions as CBN deadline draws close

The leadership of Sokoto Market Associations has agreed to embrace E-Naira transactions for their company in an effort to reduce the stress currently being caused by the lack of new naira notes in circulation.

Alhaji Yaro Gobirawa, the association’s head, said he would encourage his members to support the cashless policy in order to lessen the amount of money in circulation.

Gobirawa said his members were prepared to accept the E-Naira transaction as the way forward in a press conference shortly after meeting with Central Bank of Nigeria officials in the state on Wednesday.

However, Gobirawa pleaded with the CBN to tell commercial banks doing business in the state to set aside enough people and desks to deal with its members.

In order to relieve the burden now experienced by citizens of the state, he further calls on CBN management to ensure that more brand-new naira notes are in circulation.

Dahiru Usman, the Sokoto CBN Branch Controller, earlier praised the market’s leadership for its ongoing collaboration with the bank.

The controller further guaranteed that the central bank will send some of its IT personnel to various locations in the market to help the traders create e-naira applications.

He also mentioned that the CBN would be launching a swap program for citizens with N10,000 and less in naira notes.

He claimed that by doing this, citizens living in the state would be able to lessen the pressure and stress they are currently experiencing as a result of the new naira notes.
