Soldiers assault policeman, LASTMA official in Lagos

On Wednesday morning, along Eko Bridge in Lagos, some Nigerian Army soldiers assaulted a Police Officer and an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.

According to reports, the Policeman and LASTMA officer halted the troops’ car on a one-way road and told them to turn around and move to the right lane.

It was discovered that tension had developed since neither party could reach a compromise following confrontations.

According to reports, the troops jumped on the two officials and started beating them after refusing to turn around.

It was gathered that a different group of soldiers, who were traveling in the right lane, had halted when they saw the scene and had joined their fellow soldiers.

The injured officials are reportedly undergoing medical care in the hospital even though the situation has reportedly calmed down and both parties claim to have apologised to each other.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident to our but noted that all had been addressed.

He said, “Yes the incident happened this morning (Wednesday) along Eko bridge.

“Everything is fine now and our man is undergoing treatment at a hospital. Both parties have apologised to each other and there is no cause for alarm. The situation is under control.

“The Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Police Force in Lagos State will continue to co-exist in harmony,” he added.
