The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Nonye Soludo, has commended nurses across Nigeria for their vital role in strengthening the healthcare system, describing them as caring professionals who provide not only medical attention but also emotional support to patients.
Speaking in a statement released on Tuesday to mark the 2026 International Nurses Day, she said nurses remain key pillars of healthcare delivery and deserve greater recognition for their dedication, resilience, and service to humanity.
The founder of the NGO Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo also congratulated nurses on the global celebration and encouraged them to maintain their commitment to quality healthcare services.
She emphasised their importance in patient care, stating:
“Today, we celebrate the unsung heroes whose compassion and dignity speak louder than words — our nurses,”
She further noted the sacrifices nurses make in their daily work:
“Behind every recovering patient is a dedicated nurse who stayed awake through the night, offered reassurance in moments of fear and anxiety, and gave care with patience, strength, and love.”
She added that nurses contribute beyond treatment by offering emotional and human support within the health system:
“Their service goes beyond medicine; they bring hope, comfort, and humanity to healthcare and our society,”
Marking the occasion, she also praised their efforts and dedication:
“On this International Nurses Day, I honour the dedication, sacrifice, and resilience of nurses in Anambra State and beyond,”
She continued by appreciating their impact on communities:
“Your commitment continues to save lives, strengthen families, and uphold the dignity of our communities every single day.”
She concluded her message with gratitude:
“Thank you for all you do. The world is healthier, kinder, and safer because of you. Happy International Nurses Day!”
International Nurses Day is observed globally to honour the contributions of nurses and to highlight the need for continued investment in the nursing profession and healthcare systems worldwide.
