Stop wasting votes, unite behind Tinubu, Soludo tells South East
Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has urged Ndigbo to rethink their political approach ahead of the 2027 elections, calling on the Southeast to unite behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Soludo made the call at a major endorsement rally organised by the APC at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, where party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters gathered to endorse Tinubu for a second term.
The governor said the Southeast must abandon divisive politics and embrace a strategy focused on development and collective progress.
“We must now move from the alliance for protests to an alliance for progress and partnership for prosperity for Ndigbo. We must unite as Ndigbo and stop wasting our votes.”
According to Soludo, progressive political forces across the country should work together to sustain the reforms being implemented by the current administration.
“I have come in solidarity because progressives are working together. It is time for progressives to unite,” Soludo said.
He expressed optimism about the Tinubu administration’s efforts, describing its policies as laying a strong foundation for Nigeria’s future. He also hinted that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) would soon announce its official position.
“APGA will soon be meeting and will make its own statement. I believe that after, progressives all over Nigeria will be coming together under one umbrella to make sure that Bola Ahmed Tinubu continues the great job and the foundational structure that he is laying down for Nigeria,” he stated.
Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru declared that the state was firmly behind Tinubu’s re-election bid, insisting that residents had no alternative presidential candidate for 2027.
“Today, we gathered here not only to endorse Mr President, but to tell the whole world that we have no other presidential candidate other than President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Nwifuru said.
He commended the President for what he described as unprecedented support for the Southeast through infrastructure projects and strategic appointments, arguing that federal interventions in the region demonstrated a genuine commitment to its development.
Nwifuru also dismissed claims that the Presidency had reached any arrangement to hand Ebonyi State to opposition forces, maintaining that the state remained a stronghold of the APC.
“We are members of the All Progressives Congress and that is where Ebonyi people belong. That is where Ebonyi State is,” he said.
APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda described the rally turnout as evidence of the party’s growing influence in Ebonyi and praised Nwifuru for fostering unity among political leaders in the state.
Yilwatda also rejected speculation that Tinubu had agreed to cede the state to the PDP.
“If anybody tells you that Mr President has conceded Ebonyi State to PDP, that is the greatest lie ever told. It is not true. It has not been discussed,” he said.
Minister of Works David Umahi echoed similar sentiments, saying Tinubu had delivered more projects to Ebonyi and the Southeast than any previous president.
“Ebonyi State is a one-party state under Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru. We are not going to make another mistake.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has done a lot not just for Ebonyi State but for the entire Southeast and other geopolitical zones,” he said.
The rally also featured the formal adoption of Tinubu and Nwifuru for re-election in 2027, with former Governor Martin Elechi moving the motion and former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim seconding it.
Meanwhile, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma inaugurated the Ebonyi chapter of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, appointing former deputy governor Kelechi Igwe as coordinator.
