Strong earthquake hits southern Philippines

A strong earthquake has just struck the southern Philippines at 07:37 local time (23:37 GMT) according to BBC. 

The magnitude and depth of the earthquake are unclear at the moment: According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the quake had a magnitude of 7.0 and a depth of 10km (6.2 miles). The US Geological Survey has recorded its magnitude as 7.8 and its depth as 35km. The German Research Centre for Geosciences put its magnitude at 7.8 and depth at 50km.

Several countries in the region, including the Philippines, Indonesia and Japan, have issued tsunami warnings.
