Following the circulation of a viral video depicting a distressing incident of bullying on the school grounds, Lead British International School in Abuja has been closed for a period of three days.
During a press briefing held at the school premises on Tuesday, concerned parents were informed of the decision to temporarily close Lead British International School for three days.
The school’s temporary closure follows public outcry triggered by circulating videos depicting a distressing incident of bullying. The footage showed a female student enduring physical and emotional abuse at the hands of her peers, including repeated slapping during what appeared to be an interrogation.
The incident prompted widespread condemnation and urgent calls for action to address the issue of bullying within the school community.
Abraham Ogunkambi, the Head of Lead British International School, issued a statement on Tuesday expressing the school’s disapproval of the incident and confirming the initiation of an investigation into the matter.
“The school management is treating this matter with the utmost seriousness,” Ogunkambi asserted.
He added that the school has already been in contact with the victim and her parents, offering support and counseling services to help them manage the emotional and psychological effects of the incident.
