A suicide attack in northwest Pakistan claimed the lives of 10 soldiers on Tuesday evening, an intelligence source confirmed to the media. This follows another attack less than 24 hours earlier, which left eight dead in the region bordering Afghanistan.
“A suspected suicide bomber detonated an explosive-laden vehicle near the checkpoint, after which his accomplices opened fire,” an intelligence official said regarding the latest incident in Bannu.
“According to the most recent updates, 10 people have been killed and seven injured in the attack,” he added.
The official also noted that the explosion caused “significant damage” to the structure of the Mali Khel checkpoint as well as to military vehicles.
The Hafiz Gul Bahadur armed group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The bombing occurred less than 24 hours after another assault in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. According to another official, speaking anonymously, Monday’s clash in the Tirah area resulted in the deaths of eight soldiers and nine militants.
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also known as the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for that attack.
