In the present supplementary elections in two Federal Constituencies in Oyo State, a sizable number of eligible voters have turned out to vote.

According to reports, the Independent National Electoral Commission announced that due to reported violations, a new election would be held on April 15, 2023, in two polling places in the Oluyole federal constituency and three in each of the Ibadan North East and Ibadan South East local government areas of the state.

The committee was unable to declare winners in the presidential and National Assembly elections held on February 25 as a result of the violations.

According to reports, there was no violence throughout the exercise and that there were many security personnel present, including members of the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Army, Department of State Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and several paramilitary organisations.

Adeniran Tella, the state’s INEC resident electoral commissioner, and his colleagues were also keeping an eye on the concerned polling places to make sure the Bimodal Verification and Accreditation System was operating properly.

Tella indicated that the decision to move the election’s location to Idu was made necessary for security reasons.

He, therefore, expressed satisfaction with the functionality of the use of BVAS, noting that the exercise has been relatively peaceful.
