Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan paid a visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the capital of the country.

The visit occurred a day after the Supreme Court confirmed Tinubu’s victory in the highly competitive presidential election held on February 25, 2023.

While the specific purpose of Jonathan’s visit remains uncertain, a video showed him congratulating Tinubu on the Supreme Court’s decision.

Speaking to reporters following their private meeting with the President, Jonathan explained that his visit was to update Tinubu on his recent international commitments and discuss various national issues.

He mentioned that the visit also provided him with the chance to extend his congratulations to the President for the judgment delivered on Thursday, emphasizing that now that the legal disputes have concluded, it is imperative for the nation to progress.

Recognizing the myriad challenges confronting Nigeria, Jonathan expressed his optimism that the country possesses the necessary resources to assume a leading role in Africa.

“There are certain things we discussed that the country must move forward. Elections are over, we must move forward,” the ex-President said.

“Yes, we have challenges economically now, we still have all it takes to lead. These are some of the issues I will continue to have a conversation with Mr President, including briefing him on all my foreign programmes because they are not personal issues.”

“Traditionally, if a former president goes outside the country for this continental, regional or international, they come home and tell the President. That is the tradition. Most of the time, when you see me here, it is because of this thing we must do to move Nigeria, ECOWAS, and the African continent forward.”

He urged all political leaders, including former presidents, to let go of animosity and collaborate harmoniously for the betterment of the country.

Jonathan stressed the importance of alleviating tension and advancing together as the most populous nation in Africa.
