Suspected bandits have killed at least seven people in a wave of violent attacks on several communities in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State, triggering fear, displacement, and renewed demands for improved security deployment.

The attackers reportedly invaded Tungan Giwa village on Wednesday night, killing two residents and forcing many villagers to flee their homes.

The assault came barely 24 hours after similar attacks were recorded on Tuesday in other parts of the local government area.

Community sources said five persons were killed in Kaiwa village, where the assailants also set the house of the village head on fire.

The bandits were also said to have attacked Gebbe town the same day, killing one person, before launching another raid on Gurwo town earlier on Wednesday, where one resident was reportedly killed.

A resident, who spoke anonymously, said the repeated attacks have thrown the entire area into panic, forcing residents of neighbouring villages to abandon their homes, farmlands, livestock, and personal belongings.

“Many families have fled to Shanga town for safety. People have lost everything, and the situation is becoming more desperate by the day,” the source said.

Affected community members have appealed to the government to urgently deploy additional military and security personnel to safeguard civilians and restore peace in the area.

While commending ongoing efforts to address insecurity, residents stressed the need for a stronger and more visible security presence to halt further killings and destruction of property.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official response from the police regarding the attacks.
