The disruption of the Poco Lee Homecoming concert in Lagos on Thursday evening is being attributed by some Lagos State University (LASU) students to cultists known as ‘Ojo boys.’
According to the students, the cultists entered the campus armed with pistols and other weapons. The concert, organized by Pascal Odinaka (popularly known as Poco Lee), a dancer and LASU alumnus, took place at the LASU Main Auditorium, Ojo Campus.
Bella Shmurda, another popular singer and LASU alumnus, was also scheduled to perform at the event.
One student, identified as Seye, explained that the initial commotion arose when organizers sold more tickets than the limited space available. As a result, fans who purchased VIP and VVIP seats encountered difficulties entering the overcrowded hall, which was already packed by noon.
According to reports, regular tickets were priced at N2,000, VIP tickets at N5,000, and VVIP tickets at N10,000.
Seye narrated, “The Poco Lee concert organisers sold tickets for the event but it was overcrowded, for instance, the capacity of the hall is 3000 but they sold tickets for 5,000 students. Persons who paid for VIP, VVIP, couldn’t get seats because the hall was already filled up and several people loitered outside. That led to some fights outside, they were like they can’t stay outside when they paid for VIP, VVIP seats.”
Another student, who wishes to remain anonymous, disclosed that the cultists appeared just as Bella was about to perform and insisted that he should not be allowed to take the stage.
“There is always trouble whenever Bella comes to school. cultist will come to disrupt whatever he wanted to do.
“When Bella was about to perform the cultists said no way. And we saw live arms, pistols, knives, and other harmful items and we all ran for our dear lives. The event triggered a lot of atrocities on campus yesterday.
“People started smoking, we saw shisha, kolos, and things you can’t see before on our campus, they were smoking Igbo (Indian hemp). You can’t enter LASU with palms slippers but yesterday all manners of people and atrocities were committed.”
Despite efforts to reach out to LASU’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onasile, for the institution’s response, there has been no response from her at the time of this press release.
