Three brothers, all from the same mother, have tragically fallen victim to ongoing violent cult attacks in Awka, the capital of Anambra State.

The most recent victim, Nonso, was killed in broad daylight on Saturday afternoon near the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital in Amaku, Awka.

A close family source has linked Nonso’s death to the murder of his younger brother, Buchi, which occurred three months earlier near the Mac Don Eatery area. Their eldest brother was also brutally killed in an earlier attack, leaving their mother without any surviving children.

This latest incident brings the total number of deaths from cult-related violence in Awka to at least twenty in recent weeks.

The ongoing conflict has rekindled painful memories of the Nibo Massacre and Ifite killings, events that left lasting scars on the community. Cult-related violence has long plagued Anambra State, with Awka often at the center of these tragic incidents.

Rival cult groups continue their deadly struggle for dominance, resulting in numerous deaths, shattered families, and a deeply traumatized community.

Anambra State Police Commissioner, Nnaghe Obono Itam, condemned the latest killing, assuring a thorough investigation. He pledged that the police command would leave no stone unturned in apprehending the perpetrators and ensuring justice is served.

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has also weighed in, urging calm and reassuring citizens of increased security measures, noting that his administration is committed to restoring peace and security in Awka.

While relatives and community members throng the home of the bereaved mother of three sons to comfort her, residents are calling for urgent action to check the escalating senseless killings and restore peace to the capital city.
