Suspected herdsmen attack Adamawa village, kill many

Armed men suspected to be herders have attacked a village in Adamawa State, killing unspecified number of people.

The armed men swooped on Shuws-Kala’a, a village in Hong Local Government Area on Saturday, destroying human lives and valuable properties, local sources said.

One of the locals, Sani Ahmed, who claimed that herders had been troubling the area since the beginning of the harvest season, added that their attack early on Saturday followed a similar pattern.

He said, “This morning the herdsmen attacked and robbed a man who went to the farm to bring home his harvest.

“He returned and had barely informed the community of what happened to him when we saw them coming from all areas.

“Our local vigilante guys quickly mobilized and put up resistance and were able to repel them.

“Yes, there are casualties on both sides, but I cannot ascertain whether there were fatalities”, Ahmed said.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Suleiman Nguroje, could not confirm the attack, but said he would contact the Hong Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for details.
