Suspected herdsmen kill five farmers in Ondo community

Five farmers were reportedly killed by suspected herdsmen in the Ajegunle Powerline community of Akure North Local Government Area, Ondo State.

The victims, identified as laborers from Plateau and Kaduna states, were working on farmlands when the attack occurred around 3:00 pm on Tuesday.

According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants had been destroying crops and disrupting the livelihoods of local farmers in the area.

A farmer in the community stated that such attacks have become frequent, forcing many farmers to abandon their fields out of fear for their lives.

He further lamented the increasing dangers faced by farmers, including killings and occasional cases of sexual violence against women.

A laborer who managed to escape the attack reported that the assailants appeared suddenly and began shooting indiscriminately, leaving five people dead.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, CSP Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident but was unable to specify the number of casualties, noting that investigations are ongoing.
