A suspected ritualist has murdered and dismembered a final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Lawal Hafsoh Yetunde was allegedly killed by her boyfriend, whom she met on social media.

After the brutal killing, the suspect dismembered her body, reportedly for ritual purposes.

However, police authorities in Kwara State have confirmed the suspect’s arrest.

Yetunde was last seen on Monday, 10th February 2025. She was attending a naming ceremony when she received a call from a friend. Witnesses say she left her meal to take the call and then departed.

Her family reported her missing the next day at Oja Oba Police Station in Ilorin. Officers used her phone records to track her last call, which led them to a suspect living in the Offa Garage District, though his family home is in Isalekuto.

The suspect initially denied any knowledge of Yetunde’s whereabouts. However, when police searched his home, he admitted that she had visited and claimed she had died from an asthma attack.

Further investigation revealed her dismembered body hidden in a bowl, along with tools allegedly used in the act. The suspect is currently being held at the Kwara State police headquarters.

A source commended the police for their swift action in solving the case, revealing that the suspect had met Yetunde on Facebook before inviting her over. Disturbingly, forensic evidence suggests he may have committed similar crimes before.

Yetunde’s murder adds to the rising number of women allegedly killed by their boyfriends in recent months.

In January 2025, 32-year-old Timilehin Ajayi was accused of killing his girlfriend, Salome Adaidu, and severing her head. That case remains in court.

Similarly, earlier this month, police in Akwa Ibom launched an investigation into the murder of makeup artist Emrich Effanga, allegedly killed by her boyfriend, Ndifreke.

The Kwara State Police Command, through spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed that investigations are ongoing.

“The detectives acted swiftly, tracked her number, arrested a suspect, and recovered exhibits. The case has now been transferred to the SCID for further investigations,” she stated.
