Tanker accidents: FRSC laments increasing death toll

Dauda Biu, the Federal Road Safety Corps’ acting corps marshal, has criticized the high number of collisions that has resulted in constant loss of lives and property.

This is stated in a statement provided to reporters on Friday by Bisi Kazeem, the Corps Public Education Officer.

The recent fatality counts from traffic accidents in the states of Ankpa in Kogi and Argugun in Kebbi, according to Biu, show that immediate action is required to reduce traffic accidents in the two states.

In Ankpa, according to the statement, initial reports indicate that eight people died immediately and two people were rescued alive.

Although he blamed speeding and a loss of control for the crashes in both states, he nevertheless ordered the sending of crash investigators to the two crash sites right away to determine the immediate and remote causes in an effort to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The Acting Corps Marshal believes that unnecessary deaths and senseless killings must end.

He said, “The two crashes in Kogi and Kebbi states is saddening and worrisome.

“This is so because despite all entreaties, advocacy, enlightenment and education plus consultations with the different transport unions, more fatal crashes are happening,”

Biu expressed sympathy to the families of the sad tanker fire victims in the states of Kogi and Kebbi, respectively.

He gave the assurance that the corps would keep trying to lessen traffic accidents nationwide.
