A tanker explosion occurred at the Obiri-Ikwerre flyover along the East-West road in Port Harcourt, approximately 200 meters from the Channels Television office.

The incident, which took place around 9:30 am on Tuesday, involved a tanker transporting what is presumed to be Liquefied Natural Gas. The tanker overturned and exploded while attempting to navigate the roundabout.

The impact of the explosion was widespread, with residents reporting shattered windows and vibrations felt several kilometers away.

At the time of reporting, the Fire Service was on the scene battling the inferno, while a crowd of spectators gathered, accompanied by a significant security presence.

Eyewitnesses confirmed no casualties, as the driver managed to escape just before the explosion. However, there was a minor commotion when a scavenger attempted to pilfer parts from the truck and was apprehended by the crowd, subsequently handed over to the police.

As of the time of this report, there has been no official statement from the authorities regarding the incident.
