Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has reiterated his administration’s commitment to uplifting communities, bolstering the economy, and securing a brighter future for all citizens.
In a statewide broadcast marking the 33rd anniversary of the state’s creation on August 27, 1991, the governor highlighted the significance of the day as a symbol of shared identity, unity, and collective determination to build a prosperous future.
Reflecting on the journey so far, Governor Kefas emphasized that his primary focus since taking office has been the well-being and prosperity of every Taraban. He outlined the significant strides made across various sectors, underscoring his administration’s dedication to continuing these efforts until the state’s economy is fully revitalized.
Key Achievements and Initiatives:
Education and Healthcare: Governor Kefas noted the progress in making education free and compulsory for every child in the state. He also emphasized efforts to improve healthcare, particularly for children, to ensure they grow up healthy and strong.
Economic Empowerment and Infrastructure: Through the Taraba Development Master Plan 2023-2050, the state has laid out a comprehensive strategy for sustainable development. Completing legacy road projects is a priority to boost economic activities, create jobs, and reduce poverty across the state.
Local Governance and Autonomy: The administration has ensured that local governments have the autonomy to manage their affairs effectively, in line with a Supreme Court judgment. This move strengthens grassroots governance and ensures resources are used where they are most needed.
Natural Resource Management: By regulating and harnessing the state’s vast mineral resources through the Taraba State Mineral Resources Company Limited, the government is increasing internally generated revenue and paving the way for long-term economic stability.
Flood Control and Disaster Management: Recognizing the challenges posed by flooding, the state has established a Flood Control Team across all 168 wards. This team focuses on emergency management and proactive measures to prevent future disasters, working closely with experts and communities to mitigate the impact on citizens.
Civil Servants’ Welfare: The welfare of civil servants is a top priority, with commitments to timely payment of salaries and pensions, along with enhancing career prospects through continuous training and development. The administration is also dedicated to implementing the federal government’s minimum wage decision, reflecting its commitment to improving living standards.
Security: Security remains a critical focus, with strengthened collaboration between the military, security agencies, traditional institutions, and neighboring states, including Cameroon. The establishment of a joint intelligence network and expansion of the Taraba Marshall’s operational status to include local security groups aim to ensure the safety of all citizens.
Governor Kefas also addressed the recent national protests, emphasizing the need to tackle issues such as corruption, unemployment, and poor infrastructure. He assured citizens that his administration is working closely with the federal government to address these concerns, particularly by engaging with the youth to ensure their voices are heard.
Looking ahead, Governor Kefas expressed optimism about the future, promising continued transparency, accountability, and inclusive development. He reaffirmed his commitment to youth empowerment, ensuring no community is left behind, and fostering collaborative governance with various stakeholders.
“As we celebrate our state’s creation, let us do so with pride in our achievements and hope for what lies ahead,” he said. “Together, we will continue to build a strong, united, and prosperous Taraba State, our land, our heritage, and our future.”
