Taraba Governor approves N1bn For gratuity, directs immediate payments

Agbu Kefas, the governor of Taraba State, has sanctioned a sum of one billion naira to pay the gratuity backlog.

The last time payments were made was in 2011.

While signing the approval, Governor Kefas asked the ministry of finance to make immediate payments on the delayed entitlements.

He expressed apologies for the delays and promised that his government would not desert personnel who had faithfully served their country.

Aside from the original one billion naira, the governor also approved setting aside 200 million naira every month to offset the backlog and continue payments.

It should be noted that throughout the campaign, Kefas vowed to offset pensions and gratuities notwithstanding the massive backlog.

The governor stated that it is unjust to deny workers who have slaved for years their benefits.

He stated that his government will continue to provide services and make timely payments of salaries, pensions, and gratuities.

The Permanent Secretary, Pensions, Mrs Rose Garba Ajiya, assured pensioners of Governor Kefas’ kindness, saying the gesture will essentially end many years of misery and despair for elderly pensioners.

She stated that she and her staff are well prepared to commence payments because all documents are readily available and accurately managed.
