Taskforce seizes 39 motorcycles in Abuja
On Tuesday, a Federal Capital Territory Administration taskforce confiscates 39 motorcycles near Airport Road in Luge.
The motorcyclists were claimed to have breached traffic laws, preventing them from traveling the road.
During the exercise, FCT Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Monitoring, Inspection, and Enforcement, Ikharo Attah, stated that motorcyclists had continued to violate traffic rules and regulations along the Airport road and other sites where limitations orders were still in effect.
Attah assured that the crew would continue to clean up the road corridors.
He said, “Lugbe-Airport road axis, is one of the restricted places where Okada riders are not allowed to operate, but they have remained adamant and have disobeying the laws.
“The operation was not without hitches, we have impounded 39 motorcycles, but came under attack by some Okada riders who came with cutlasses. We didn’t know they were having cutlasses, it was when some of the officers confronted them to impound the motorcycles that they were attacked.
“But for the gallantry of the Nigerian Police and other Officers, the attackers were overpowered. There is some form of resistance by the Okada Operators, but there is also a strong political will from the FCT Minister and the New Director DRTS and all the Officers here to rid Abuja of all nuisances”,
He noted that notwithstanding the resistance from the operators, the Minister, the taskforce remain committed to cleaning the city and restoring environmental sanity in all parts of the territory.
