The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reports it has successfully restored bulk power supply through its 330kV Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line 1 as of 4:56 pm on Wednesday, following the completion of repairs on the vandalised section of the line.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah on Wednesday.
“With the restoration of this line, the Apir-Lafia 330kV transmission line 2 is now operational. Bulk power transmission has also been restored to the states of Lafia, Makurdi, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, and Gombe.
“As restoration efforts continue, the TCN engineering team is preparing to commence work on the second 330kV transmission line. All necessary materials for the repairs are available, and work will commence as soon as the site is secured to ensure the safety of our personnel working on the affected sections of the vandalised 330kV transmission line two,” the statement read in part.
It also noted that, in the meantime, teams of linesmen will re-patrol the 330kV line 2 to ensure no further sections are impacted as repair work progresses.
“We appreciate your patience and understanding as our engineers work diligently to restore the 330kV transmission line 2. TCN recognises the importance of electricity in our daily lives and is committed to repairing this line swiftly, thereby enhancing bulk power supply to the areas affected by the incident,” the statement added.
The northern region has been without electricity for over a week, an outage reportedly triggered by the tripping of the 330kV circuit transmission line between Benue and Enugu.
The transmission line between Shiroro and Kaduna was also affected, impacting power supply to Kano, Gombe, Kebbi, Jos, Kaduna, Benue, Bauchi, Adamawa, Taraba, Borno, Kwara, Nasarawa, and Yobe.
