The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the restoration of power supply to the 330kV Gombe-Damaturu-Maiduguri transmission line.
According to TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, power was restored in stages between Wednesday and Thursday.
“Power supply was fully restored on the Gombe–Damaturu line at around 7:25 pm on 30th October, and on the Damaturu–Maiduguri (Molai) segment of the line yesterday, 31st October 2024, at approximately 2:01 pm,” Mbah stated in a press release issued late on Friday.
This development follows more than a month after tower 372 along the 330kV transmission line was vandalised.
The statement read, “The vandalised tower was rebuilt, and line stringing was completed on 23rd October 2024, at about 12:48 pm.”
“TCN was, however, initially unable to restore bulk power supply through the line due to the vandalism of the Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line. Nonetheless, full power supply has now been restored along the Gombe–Damaturu–Maiduguri 330kV transmission line.”
TCN is once again urging the public to help combat the vandalism of power installations, stressing the importance of protecting Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure. The company encourages people to report any suspicious activity near transmission installations to security agencies or TCN offices across the country.
The full statement from TCN reiterates the company’s plea: “Please join the fight against power installation vandalism to secure Nigeria’s electricity future.”
The restored Gombe-Damaturu-Maiduguri transmission line is now back in operation following the reconstruction of the vandalised tower and completion of line stringing on 23rd October 2024.
