Tenant stabs landlord after he intervened in domestic dispute

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a middle-aged man, Patrick Essien was arrested for allegedly stabbing his landlord in Rumuiprikon, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state, leaving him in a coma.

It was learned that the landlord, Iheanyichukwu America, intervened in a domestic dispute between Essien and his wife, and was stabbed by Essien when he tried to stop him from manhandling her.

In her narration of the incident, Chioma America, the wife of the landlord, said that even when her husband intervened, Essien was still pulling his wife into their house.

She claimed that her husband, the landlord, intervened in the domestic dispute and told Essien’s wife that she would not be allowed to sleep in their house that night to prevent further attacks by her husband.

Mrs. America stated, “He (Essien) tried to drag the wife to go inside with him. But my husband said he would not allow him. He was still inside the house when my husband said he would not allow the woman to sleep in their house because of the situation.”

“That she should stay in my husband’s family house and the morning we know what to do. So, he moved the woman out of their house.”

“Then about midnight, the man came to attack my husband in the process of coming to check if his wife was in our house, but she was not there.”

“The person he met was my husband, and he now unleashed the attack on him in place of his wife.”

Similarly, Gladys Bardey, the elder sister of the landlord, expressed sadness at the tenant’s actions and said that the matter should be brought to court.

“I was sleeping when they woke me up that he (landlord) was stabbed this morning by his tenant.”

“So, I started going there to see if what I heard was true. And it is true because I saw him and the injury is much,” Gladys said.”

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident and said that the suspect, Patrick Essien, had been arrested. She added that the landlord, Iheanyichukwu America, was receiving medical attention in the hospital.

She stated, “We are aware of the matter. The suspect has been arrested and is in our custody. The investigation is still ongoing.”
