In Odigbo town, located within the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, there is a palpable sense of fear following the discovery of three headless bodies floating in a river along the Osogbo/Ore road on Wednesday.
An eyewitness, Sileola, a local resident, suggested that the victims had likely been brutally murdered and disposed of in the river by suspected kidnappers.
Sileola mentioned that the community has been unable to identify any of the deceased, adding that no one has been reported missing in the area.
The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Olusola Ayanlade, confirmed the incident during a phone call with our correspondent. He stated that the incident had been reported to the Ore Division of the Command.
Ayanlade noted that the divisional police officer subsequently led detectives to the scene, where the bodies were recovered and taken to the morgue at the General Hospital, with investigations into the matter underway.
He further revealed that the bodies remain unidentified, and no missing persons have been reported locally. He speculated that the bodies might have been carried downstream from another location.
Ayanlade also shared that State Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, has instructed community leaders to take action in identifying the bodies.
