At least 29 people have been reported killed following an attack by suspected terrorists on Guyaku community in Gombi LGA of Adamawa State.

According to reports citing local officials and community leaders, the attackers stormed the area late on Sunday, carrying out “sporadic shootings for several hours, killing residents and destroying property.”

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri confirmed the casualty figure during a visit to the affected community, where he expressed sympathy with the victims’ families and described the incident as “tragic and unacceptable.”

In a statement, the governor said efforts are underway to strengthen security operations and restore peace in the area.

“My heart breaks for the people of Guyaku in Gombi LGA. Today, I stood on the ground where our brothers and sisters were cruelly taken from us. This act of cowardice is an affront to our humanity and will not go unpunished,” he said.

“To the bereaved families: Adamawa mourns with you. To the attackers: justice is coming. We will rebuild, and we will remain resilient.”

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Adamawa has experienced repeated attacks over the years from Boko Haram insurgents and other armed groups. In February, more than 24 people were also killed when gunmen invaded Kirchinga village in Madagali LGA, destroying homes, shops, and places of worship.

Amnesty International condemned the latest killings, describing the incident as “horrifying” and calling on authorities to take stronger measures to protect lives and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
