Suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked Jakana Police Station in the Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State on Sunday, killing a police driver and a woman.
The terrorists also set ablaze two patrol vehicles belonging to the police and the Civilian Joint Task Force, as well as a motorcycle. Additionally, they stole some arms and ammunition.
Jakana, located 35 km along the Maiduguri-Damaturu Road, has long been a route for insurgents.
Sources in Jakana reported that the terrorists stormed the police station around 1 am, engaging security troops for hours before fleeing two hours later.
The Chairman of Konduga Council Area, Abbas Ali Abari, in a telephone conversation, confirmed the incident but said that he does not have details of casualties as of press time.
“I received a distress call that Boko Haram terrorists attacked Jakana Police Station last night. I am speaking with the Divisional Police Officer, and whenever I get the details I will furnish you,” he said.
Efforts to get the police spokesman for the state Kenneth Daso were futile as of the time of filling this report.
