The Lagos State Government has declared that the reopening of the Third Mainland Bridge is slated for April 4, 2024.
As a reminder, the state previously declared on January 5, 2024, that the bridge would undergo partial closure starting from Tuesday, January 9, for repair works.
Lagos Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, affirmed the reopening in a statement released on Saturday.
He said, “Dear Lagos residents, We’re pleased to share that the Third Mainland Bridge will resume full operations on April 4, 2024, following extensive repairs.
“We sincerely thank you for your patience and cooperation, and we look forward to even smoother travels ahead.”
The National Assembly has urged the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, to appeal to the Presidency for the declaration of a state of emergency on critical infrastructures in Lagos State, including the Third Mainland Bridge.
This recommendation came after lawmakers inspected the lower sections of various bridges in Lagos State, including the Third Mainland Bridge and Carter Bridge.
They observed decay in these infrastructure components, emphasizing the need for immediate repairs to prevent further deterioration.
They highlighted that timely repairs would avert additional expenses associated with reconstructing the bridges.
