The Katsina State Police Command announced that it has thwarted a kidnapping attempt, rescued all the kidnapped victims, mostly women, and neutralized three suspected notorious bandits.

In a statement on Saturday, the Command’s spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, reported that on Friday at approximately 19:23 hours, the Sabuwa Divisional Police Headquarters received information that armed bandits, in large numbers and wielding dangerous weapons, had attacked Duya village in the Maibakko ward of Sabuwa Local Government Area, kidnapping several women.

He said upon receipt of the report, promptly, the DPO Sabuwa Divisional Headquarters, CSP Aliyu Mustapha, in collaboration with members of the vigilante, mobilised a team of operatives to the scene.

“Upon noticing the presence of the team, the bandits opened fire on the team, to which the team responded gallantly and successfully thwarted the kidnapping attempt and rescued all the kidnapped victims,” the statement read.

“In the course of scanning the scene, the bodies of three neutralised suspected bandits were recovered from the scene.”

The State Police Commissioner, Aliyu Abubakar Musa, praised the operatives for their exceptional bravery and gallantry, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the state’s residents.

On Saturday morning, unconfirmed reports indicated that the bodies of three individuals killed the previous night by suspected bandits in Kachilo village, Dandume LGA, were laid to rest amidst tears according to Islamic rites.

It was also reported that the assailants abducted an unspecified number of people, taking them to the forest.
