Three people have lost their lives, while seven others sustained injuries in two separate road accidents along the Sagamu–Ikorodu Expressway and Ota–Idiroko Road in Ogun State.

The incidents, according to reports, occurred on Saturday at the Kam Steel axis of the Sagamu–Ikorodu Expressway and the Agarawu, Winners axis of the Ota–Idiroko Road.

Akinbiyi disclosed that the first crash occurred around 4:10 p.m. at the Kam Steel axis of the Sagamu–Ikorodu Highway, claiming the life of a woman and leaving two other women injured.

He explained that the accident happened when a patrol van emerged from the Kam Steel access road onto the highway and collided with a tricycle, causing it to somersault.

He stated, “The pick-up van came out of the Kam Steel Road into the highway and collided with the tricycle, which somersaulted as a result.

“Eight people were involved; one female adult died while two other female adults sustained varying degrees of injuries.”

According to him, the injured victims were taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu for treatment, while the deceased was deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

In the second accident, which occurred at the Agarawu, Winners axis of the Ota–Idiroko Road, two people—a man and a woman—lost their lives, while seven others sustained injuries.

Akinbiyi said the crash, which happened around 3:25 p.m., involved a yellow Howo truck and a TVS tricycle.

He attributed the incident to brake failure, which allegedly caused the truck driver to lose control and ram into the tricycle.

“According to the eyewitness account, the brake of the Howo truck failed, and the driver lost control and collided with the tricycle.

“Nine people were involved; two persons, including a male adult and a female adult, died while seven others were injured,” he stated.

Akinbiyi added that the injured victims had already been transported to the hospital before rescue officials arrived at the scene.

He further disclosed that relatives of one of the deceased victims had claimed the body, while the remains of the other person were deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Ifo.

The TRACE spokesperson noted that the intervention of agency operatives and other emergency responders helped to ease traffic congestion at both accident scenes.

He concluded by urging motorists to prioritise road safety through regular vehicle servicing and proper maintenance.

“While TRACE, FRSC, and the Police commiserate with families of the deceased, motorists are again admonished to make safety their watchword by servicing and adequately maintaining their vehicles as and when due in view of the attendant consequences of non-compliance,” he concluded.
