The Kebbi State Police Command has detained three officers in connection with the suspected murder of one Abubakar Auwal.

This was confirmed in a statement released by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Nafiu Abubakar.

According to the statement, the incident followed a complaint regarding stolen trailer rims, which was reported at the Jega Divisional Police Headquarters. Abubakar Auwal was subsequently arrested in connection with the case.

While investigations were ongoing, Auwal reportedly collapsed in detention. He was taken to the General Hospital in Jega for treatment, where he was pronounced dead.

The statement indicated that foul play was suspected, prompting the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Sani, to order a transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a more thorough inquiry.

Following preliminary findings, three officers were identified as culpable and have been detained at the SCID for further interrogation and disciplinary action. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jega has also been issued a query and redeployed with immediate effect.

The Police reassured the public of its firm commitment to professionalism and accountability, stating that the misconduct of a few does not reflect the values of the wider Nigeria Police Force.
