The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested three suspected criminals in separate operations across Yola North and Yola South Local Government Areas, including two alleged members of the Shilla gang.

The command confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesperson, SP Suleiman Yahaya.

According to the statement, “The Adamawa State Police Command has recorded another significant breakthrough in its sustained fight against Shilla gangsterism and other violent crimes within Yola North and Yola South Local Government Areas.”

In one of the incidents, a 22-year-old man, Abdulmalik Mohammed of Zango area, was arrested on June 12 after allegedly attacking a passenger in a commercial tricycle along the Doubeli Bye-Pass and dispossessing him of his mobile phone while armed with a cutlass.

The suspect was reportedly caught after the victim raised an alarm, with members of the public attempting to mob him before police operatives from the Doubeli Divisional Headquarters stepped in and took him into custody.

Preliminary findings also linked him to other theft cases in Yola metropolis, including the stealing of a sewing machine at Tsohon Kasuwa, while investigations are ongoing to track additional suspects.

In a separate operation on June 14, police patrol teams arrested two teenagers, Abba Abdullahi and Abdulrahman Saidu, both suspected Shilla gang members.

They were allegedly found with knives, described as “suspected to have been intended for use in committing criminal acts at a birthday party,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, commended the officers for their swift response and professionalism, and reaffirmed the command’s resolve to dismantle criminal gangs in the state.

He also urged residents to continue providing useful information to security agencies, assuring that all reports would be treated with confidentiality.
