Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has offered a fresh angle to the ongoing rape controversy after Mirabel allegedly admitted that her sexual assault claims were fabricated.
In a video recording currently circulating online, VDM shifted from advocacy to investigation, recounting a phone conversation he had with Mirabel. He detailed how he persistently questioned her account until she acknowledged that the alleged “rape” did not occur.
According to VDM, doubts emerged when he began probing inconsistencies in her narrative. Believing substance use might have affected her recollection, he asked about her habits. Mirabel disclosed that she consumed codeine mixed with Sprite, a substance combination associated with hallucinations.
“You need to think very well so you don’t put yourself in deeper troubles,” VDM cautioned. “Codeine and alcohol can make you hallucinate… there is a possibility you used your own hands to cut yourself.”
Following an extended private discussion, Mirabel reportedly made several striking admissions. When directly asked whether the rape allegation was true, she responded, “Yes, sir [it is not true].” She also revealed that she experiences panic attacks and engages in self-harm to “be fine,” which she had earlier presented as proof of assault.
Additionally, Mirabel confessed to creating an alternative social media account to circulate the false claim and generate public attention.
A particularly troubling aspect of the case is the unnamed man she had accused. Although his identity had not been publicly disclosed, the potential damage to his reputation had already begun to unfold.
During the recorded exchange, VDM further questioned her about personal matters, including her sexuality and behavioural patterns. Mirabel confirmed she is a lesbian and acknowledged struggling with psychological triggers.
The development has ignited widespread debate across Nigerian social media platforms about the repercussions of false accusations. Addressing his followers, VeryDarkMan asked:
“Should we get emotional and overlook the unlawful act? Or should the law strike at this point?”
He also stressed the possible consequences for the accused, stating: “Just imagine for a minute that she pointed an accusing finger to one innocent guy. As in, what would have happened to that guy by now?”
The episode reinforces VeryDarkMan’s growing reputation as a digital watchdog who intervenes in controversial matters. By pursuing clarification before irreversible harm could be done in the “court of public opinion,” he has drawn attention to the risks posed by unverified allegations in the digital era.
The situation remains developing.
