The vice President Kashim Shettima has stated that President Bola Tinubu remains fully committed to confronting the country’s security challenges and is taking firm steps to address the concerns.

He made this known while receiving the faculty and participants of the Executive Intelligence Management Course 18 of the National Institute for Security Studies in his State House office in Abuja.

The delegation, led by NISS Commandant Joseph Odama, included representatives of the 78 participants who visited the Presidential Villa to present the executive summary of their end-of-course report. Shettima accepted the document on behalf of President Bola Tinubu.

During the meeting, the Vice President emphasized that the administration is dedicated to supporting Nigeria’s security institutions — and partner agencies beyond the country — as they carry out their duties.

He highlighted the significance of the programme’s diverse participant base, stressing that safeguarding Africa requires joint commitment from all stakeholders.

According to him, “President Tinubu is working round the clock to address concerns in the security sector. It is absolutely essential that we fuse as one to address these issues, and all hands must be on deck to salvage the situation.”

Earlier, NISS Commandant Joseph Odama briefed the Vice President on the progress of the 18th edition of the institute’s flagship course, which began on February 19, 2025. He described it as “a ten-month journey of intense intellectual discovery, strategic broadening and unparalleled professional fellowship.”

He explained that the 78-member team consisted of Deputy Directors and senior officials drawn from the military, paramilitary, law enforcement agencies, and key ministries, departments and agencies at both federal and state levels. He also noted the participation of five African countries, reinforcing the institute’s continental focus.

Odama commended President Tinubu and the Vice President for their leadership, noting that the Renewed Hope Agenda is already delivering visible improvements nationwide.

The event’s highlight was the presentation of the report titled “Non-state Actors in Security Management in Africa: Issues, Challenges and Prospects for Peace and Development.” The participants recommended, among other things, the formal harmonisation and integration of a country-based security initiative to help strengthen the legal framework for peacebuilding and conflict resolution across Nigeria and the wider continent.
