The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, stating that his performance over the past 34 months shows he is well-suited to remain in office beyond 2027.
In a statement marking the President’s 74th birthday, the party praised his leadership qualities, saying, “He (Tinubu) has demonstrated the capacity, competence, and character required to fix the country and set it on the path of greatness, stability, and prosperity.”
The message, issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, in Ibadan, reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to securing a second term for Tinubu and fully implementing his Renewed Hope Agenda.
The party also acknowledged the success of its recent National Convention in Abuja, describing it as a culmination of its 2026 congresses nationwide.
While noting that many Nigerians recognise the President’s efforts, the APC said it chose not to hold elaborate birthday celebrations in line with Tinubu’s directive, given the current national mood.
“An average Nigerian appreciates the fact that President Tinubu deserves to be celebrated for rekindling the hope of a stronger, better, and more promising Nigeria, but we chose not to roll out the drums in celebration of Mr President’s birthday in compliance with his directive, considering the current mood of the nation.
“However, we are proud of him as a courageous, passionate, and result-oriented leader who means well for Nigeria and Nigerians,” the statement added.
The party also addressed rumours circulating about candidates for the 2027 elections, dismissing them as false and misleading.
It warned those spreading such claims to stop or face consequences, stressing that no official list of aspirants or candidates has been released.
“Just a few days ago, we had cause to dispel the unfounded rumour about the emergence of a gubernatorial candidate for our party in the state for the next general election and, unfortunately, it appears that the sponsors of that malicious story have not realised the negative implications of their actions, as they may come up with more dangerous antics aimed at causing panic and confusion in the system.
“As a matter of fact, the leadership of our great party has launched an investigation into those behind the circulation of a fresh list of purported Oyo APC candidates, which surfaced on social media a few hours ago, and we can assure our teeming members and supporters that the list is not only fake but also deceptive and provocative.
“As it stands now, we do not have any aspirant or candidate list for 2027 because it is not yet time for the expression of interest, nomination, and party primaries,” Sadare said.
