President Bola Tinubu has nominated Engr Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
He also put forward Mr Abubakar Yusuf as the nominee for Commissioner for Consumer Affairs and Dr Fouad Olayinka Animashun as Commissioner for Finance and Management Services at the regulatory body.
The nominations were announced on Thursday in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
The statement read:
“President Bola Tinubu has nominated Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the new Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). Engr Ramat, 39, is an electrical engineer and administrator with a PhD in Strategic Management, among other qualifications.”
All three nominations are subject to Senate confirmation, in line with statutory requirements.
However, to prevent a leadership vacuum, the President has directed Engr Ramat to assume the role in an acting capacity pending Senate approval.
President Tinubu encouraged the appointees to deploy their expertise and experience in supporting the administration’s objectives for the power sector.
He emphasised the critical role of the NERC in ensuring efficient, transparent, and consumer-focused electricity regulation across the country.
