President Bola Tinubu and former President Olusegun Obasanjo were prominent figures among the distinguished guests present at the commencement of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s second term in office in Imo State.

Tinubu, who had earlier attended a function in Abuja for the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, arrived at the Sam Mbakwe Airport in Owerri around 1 pm on Monday.

Accompanied by government officials, he was welcomed by Governor Uzodimma and other leaders of Imo State.

Obasanjo was also present at the Dan Anyiam Stadium event, along with several other dignitaries. Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas were in attendance. Anambra Governor Charles Soludo was represented by his deputy, Onyekachi Ibezim.

Despite the South-East sit-at-home directive, residents of Imo State defied it and turned out in large numbers for the swearing-in ceremony.

They adorned colorful attire as they paraded through the streets to the Dan Anyiam Stadium.

The Monday inauguration took place approximately two months following the re-election of Uzodimma from the All Progressives Congress (APC). He emerged victorious in securing a second term in office, overcoming his closest competitors, Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Athan Achonu from the Labour Party (LP).

The final election results showed Uzodimma receiving 540,308 votes, with the PDP candidate securing 71,503 votes, and Nneji Achonu garnering 64,081 votes.
