President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Attahiru Muhammadu Jega, former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as Special Adviser and Coordinator of the Presidential Livestock Reform.
In a statement issued by Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, the President announced the appointment on Friday, emphasizing its aim to advance meaningful progress in the livestock sector and bolster national development initiatives.
Jega, who previously served as Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, co-chaired the Presidential Livestock Committee alongside President Tinubu.
The committee submitted comprehensive recommendations to promote sustainable livestock reforms, including the establishment of the Livestock Ministry, which now has a minister in place.
At 68, Jega is a member of the International Elections Advisory Council and serves as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education in Kano State. He also led INEC from 2010 to 2015.
Onanuga highlighted that Jega’s appointment as Special Adviser will solidify the committee’s achievements and sustain the momentum of the ongoing livestock reform initiatives.
