President Bola Tinubu has postponed the Federal Executive Council meeting to a yet-to-be-announced date in honor of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, who passed away on Tuesday night.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed the rescheduling on Wednesday.
Initially set for today, the meeting was postponed following the announcement of General Lagbaja’s passing by the Presidency.
Serving as the 27th Chief of Army Staff since June 19, 2023, General Lagbaja passed away on November 5, 2024. In tribute, President Tinubu has ordered that flags be flown at half-staff across the nation for seven days.
In an earlier statement, President Tinubu extended his condolences to the Lagbaja family and the Nigerian Armed Forces, honoring the general’s impactful service and wishing him eternal peace.
General Lagbaja’s military journey began in 1987 at the Nigerian Defence Academy, leading to his commissioning as a Second Lieutenant in the Nigerian Infantry Corps on September 19, 1992, as part of the 39th Regular Course.
Throughout his career, Lagbaja served in key roles, including as a platoon commander in the 93 Battalion and the 72 Special Forces Battalion.
He was instrumental in several critical security operations, such as Operation ZAKI in Benue State, Lafiya Dole in Borno, Udoka in Southeast Nigeria, and Operation Forest Sanity across Kaduna and Niger States.
