President Bola Tinubu is currently leading the 20th Federal Executive Council meeting at the State House in Abuja.
This session, which began at 1:13 pm on Thursday, followed an hour-long meeting with a delegation from the South-South region.
While previous council meetings were typically held on Mondays or Wednesdays, this marks the first time it is convened on a Thursday.
It is also the first council meeting since the passing of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja.
Last week’s meeting, initially set for November 6, was postponed due to the Army Chief’s passing, as announced by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Shortly after the meeting began, representatives from the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning were observed preparing a presentation, likely related to Tinubu’s upcoming 2025 budget.
Among those in attendance are Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, is represented by Dr. Emanso Okop, Permanent Secretary of the Cabinet Affairs Office.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Environment, Abbas Lawal, and other council members are not present as they are away in Baku, Azerbaijan, for the 2024 UN Climate Change Summit.
