President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday directed National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu to lead negotiations aimed at resuming oil production in Ogoniland, an area within the Niger Delta.

During a meeting in Abuja with Ogoni leaders, including Governor Siminalayi Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Tinubu emphasised his administration’s commitment to peace, justice, and sustainable development in the region.

Calling for unity, Tinubu urged Ogoni leaders to move beyond historical grievances, saying, “We cannot rewrite history, but we can correct its anomalies. We must bring peace, development, and a clean environment to Ogoniland.”

The President tasked ministers, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), and Rivers State officials to collaborate with Ribadu’s office to achieve these goals.

Governor Fubara expressed gratitude for Tinubu’s support and pledged to continue consultations to ensure the swift resumption of oil production.

Ogoni leaders, including King Festus Babari Bagia Gberesaako XIII, also reaffirmed their willingness to engage in dialogue for lasting solutions to the region’s challenges.
