President Bola Tinubu has sought the Senate’s approval for a bill to repeal the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria Act and establish the National School of Government, aimed at strengthening leadership development and enhancing public officials’ ability to implement government policies.
The request was contained in a letter through which the President transmitted the National School of Government Bill 2026 to the Senate for consideration.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the letter during plenary on Wednesday.
In the correspondence, Tinubu urged the lawmakers to fast-track consideration of the bill, explaining that the proposed institution would focus on leadership development, effective policy implementation and building executive capacity.
“Pursuant to Section 58 (2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, I forward herewith the National School of Government Bill 2026 for the kind consideration of the Senate,” Tinubu stated in the letter.
He expressed the hope that the Senate would give the proposed legislation the necessary attention to facilitate its consideration.
The bill seeks to repeal the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria Act, A-4, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, and replace it with a new legal framework for the establishment of the National School of Government, Nigeria.
If passed into law, the proposed institution would serve as a national centre for leadership development, policy delivery and executive capacity building.
The move is aimed at providing a dedicated institutional framework for developing leadership skills and strengthening the capacity of public officials to translate government policies into effective implementation.
