Tinubu shelves foreign trips, delegates Shettima to South Africa ahead G20 summit

Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed for Johannesburg, South Africa, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the G20 Leaders’ Summit.

The announcement was made on Friday in Abuja by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha.

Shettima’s trip comes after President Tinubu postponed his own attendance due to the recent surge in insecurity across the country.

The president is said to be awaiting further security briefings on the recent security incidents in Kebbi and Kwara states.

It will be recalled that South African President and current President of the G20 group, Cyril Ramaphosa had invited Tinubu to take part in the 2025 edition of the summit.

The summit is scheduled to take place from Saturday, November 22nd, to Sunday, November 23rd, at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, brings together leaders from the world’s top 20 economies, including the European Union, the African Union and financial institutions, among others.
